Coin, nummus AE3
A copper alloy nummus of Crispus. Crispus was proclaimed Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Emperor Constantine I, in AD 313. He was never to become emperor and was executed on his father’s orders in AD 326. The back of the coin depicts an altar. This coin was minted in AD 320-324.
Obv: Cuirassed and laureate bust of Crispus, facing left, holding a shield on his left arm and carrying a spear over his right shoulder. Obv inscription: ...[CR]ISPVS NOB CAES. Rev: A globe set on altar inscribed VO TIS XX. Rev inscription: BEATA TRAN[QVILLITAS], ...N in exergue.
