Coin, radiate
A copper alloy radiate coin of Tetricus II. In AD 273, Tetricus II was elevated to the position of Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Tetricus I, ruler of the Romano-Gallic Empire, AD 271-274. The back of the coin depicts Spes, the female personification of hope. This coin was minted in the Gallic Empire, unidentified mint I, AD 272-274.
Obv: Draped and radiate bust of Tetricus II, facing right. Obv inscription: ...[E]SV TETRICVS [CAE]S. Rev: Spes, advancing left, holding a flower in her extended right hand and raising the hem of her dress with the left. Rev inscription: [SPES] PVBLICA.
