Coin copy, radiate
A contemporary copy of a radiate coin (barbarous radiate) of Tetricus II. In AD 273, Tetricus II was elevated to the postiion of Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Tetricus I, ruler of the Romano-Gallic Empire, AD 271-274. The back of the coin possibly depicts Pax, the Roman goddess of peace. This coin was made c. AD 275-285.
Obv: Draped and radiate bust, facing right. Obv inscription: C P[IV ESV TET]RICVS CVES. Rev: Pax, standing left, holding an olive branch in her extended right hand and a transverse sceptre in the left. Rev inscription: [PAX] AVG. Part of a hoard from Newgate Street, City of London.
