Coin, radiate
A silver radiate coin of Emperor Gordian III, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 238-244. The back of the coin depicts Pax, the Roman goddess of peace. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 239.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and radiate bust of Gordian III, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG. Rev: Pax, standing front, head left, holding a branch up in her right hand and a transverse sceptre in the left. Rev inscription: PM TR P II COS PP. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
