Coin, radiate
A base silver radiate coin of Emperor Gordian III, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 238-244. The back of the coin depicts Securitas, the Roman goddess of security and stability. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 243-244.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and radiate bust of Gordian III, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG. Rev: Securitas, standing left, legs crossed, holding a sceptre in her right hand and resting her left arm on a column. Rev inscription: SECVRIT PERPETVA. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
