Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Severus Alexander, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 222-235. The back of the coin depicts Mars, the Roman god of war. This coin was minted in Antioch (near modern day Antakya, Turkey), AD 222.
Obv: Draped and laureate bust of Severus Alexander, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG. Rev: Mars, standing left, holding a branch in his right hand and a reversed spear in the left. Rev inscription: PM TR P COS PP, * in field (right). This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
