Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Severus Alexander, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 222-235. The back of the coin depicts Mars, the Roman god of war. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 231-235.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and laureate bust of Severus Alexander, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG. Rev: Corroded. Mars advancing right, holding a transverse spear and a shield. Rev inscription: MARS VLTOR. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
