Coin, denarius
A base silver denarius coin of Emperor Severus Alexander, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 222-235. The back of the coin depicts Virtus, the personification of courage and bravery. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 228-231.
Obv: Laureate head of Severus Alexander, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP SEV ALEXAND AVG. Rev: Virtus, standing left, holding Victory in his right hand and resting the left on a shield, a spear rests against his left arm. Rev inscription: VIRTVS AVG. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
