Coin, denarius
A base silver denarius coin of Emperor Severus Alexander, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 222-235. The back of the coin depicts Annona, the female personification of the Roman grain supply. This coin was minted at an unidentified mint, AD 222-228.
Obv: Draped and laureate bust of Severus Alexander, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG. Rev: Annona, standing left, holding corn-ears over a modius with her right hand and holding a cornucopia in the left. Rev inscription: ANNO[NA] AVG. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
