Coin, denarius
A base silver denarius coin of Julia Paula, the first wife of Emperor Elagabalus, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 218-222. The back of the coin depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of love. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 219-220.
Obv: Draped and diademed bust of Julia Paula, facing right. Obv inscription: IVLIA PAVLA AVG. Rev: Venus, seated left, holding a globe (or apple) in her right hand and a sceptre in the left. Rev inscription: VENVS [GEN]ETRIX. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
