Coin, denarius
A base silver denarius coin of Plautilla, wife of Emperor Caracalla. Plautilla and Caracalla were married in AD 202. In AD 211, after six years in exile, Plautilla was strangled to death on Caracalla's orders. The back of the coin depicts Concordia, the Roman goddess of understanding and marital harmony. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 202-205.
Obv: Draped and bare-headed bust of Plautilla, facing right. Obv inscription: PLAVTILLAE AVGVSTAE. Rev: Concordia, standing left, holding a patera (dish) in her right hand and a sceptre in the left. Rev inscription: CONCORDIA AVGG. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
