Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Septimius Severus, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 193-211. The back of the coin depicts the emperor on horseback. This coin was possibly minted in Rome, Italy, AD 196-198.
Obv: Laureate head of Septimius Severus, facing right. Obv inscription: L SEPT SEV [PERT AVG IMP VIII(I)]. Rev: Severus, on horseback, advancing right, holding a spear in his right hand. Rev inscription: [PR]OFECTIO AVG. This coin may be part of a hoard from Lime Street, City of London.
