Coin, as
A copper alloy as coin of Commodus. Commodus ruled as co-emperor alongside his father, Marcus Aurelius, AD 177-180. Following his father’s death in AD 180, Commodus became sole ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 180-192. The back of the coin depicts Liberalitas, the female personification of generosity. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 192.
Obv: Laureate head of Commodus, facing right. Obv inscription: [L AEL AVREL COMM] AVG P FEL. Rev: Liberalitas, standing left, holding an abacus in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left. Rev inscription: [LIB AV]G VIII PM TR P XVII [COS VII PP], SC in field.
