Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius of Titus as Caesar (Crown Prince). Titus was given the title of Caesar on the ascension of his father, Emperor Vespasian, to the imperial throne, AD 69-79. Titus ruled as emperor of the Roman Empire, AD 79-81. The back of the coin depicts Roma, the female personification of Rome. This coin was minted in Lugdunum (modern day Lyon, France), AD 77-78.
Obv: Laureate head of Titus, facing right, small globe at point of bust. Obv inscription: T CAES IMP AVG F PON TR P COS VI CENSOR. Rev: Roma, standing left, holding Victory in her extended right hand and a vertical spear in the left. Rev inscription: ROMA, SC in field.
