Coin, dupondius
A copper alloy dupondius of Titus as Caesar (Crown Prince). Titus was given the title of Caesar on the ascension of his father, Emperor Vespasian, to the imperial throne, AD 69-79. Titus ruled as emperor of the Roman Empire, AD 79-81. The back of the coin possibly depicts Pax, the Roman goddess of peace or Felicitas, the female personification of prosperity. This coin was minted in Lugdunum (modern day Lyon, France), AD 77-78.
Obv: Laureate head of Titus, facing right. Obv inscription: [T CAES IMP] AVG F TR P [COS VI CENSOR]. Rev: Pax or Felicitas, standing left. Rev inscription: Illegible.
