Photography — C. 1862
Temple Bar, Fleet Street
This stereoscopic view of Temple Bar in Fleet Street was created for Valentine Blanchard's pioneering series 'Instantaneous Views of London'. The card was designed to be viewed through a stereoscope, thus creating a single 3-D image. Blanchard was not the first to capture 3-D stereoscopic images but his photographs were extraordinary for the amount of life and action revealed in the pictures.
