Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Vespasian, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 69-79. The back of the coin depicts Vesta, the Roman goddess of home and family. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 72-73.
Obv: Laureate head of Vespasian, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP CAES VESP AVG PM COS IIII. Rev: Vesta, standing left, holding a simpulum in her extended right hand and a vertical sceptre in his left hand. Rev inscription: VES TA in field. Part of a hoard from Queen Victoria Street, City of London.
