Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Claudius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 41-54. The back of the coin depicts Nemesis, the female spirit of divine retribution. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 52.
Obv: Bare head of Claudius, facing right. Obv inscription: TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG PM TR P XI IMP PP COS V. Rev: Nemesis, advancing right, pointing a caduceus (a winged staff held by messengers and heralds) at a snake. Rev inscription: PACI AVGUSTAE. Part of a hoard from Queen Victoria Street, City of London.
