Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Augustus, ruler of the Roman Empire, 31 BC-AD 14. The back of the coin depicts Gaius and Lucius Caesar, the grandsons and adopted sons of Augustus. This coin was minted in Lugdunum (modern day Lyon, France), 2 BC-AD 11.
Obv: Laureate head of Augustus, facing right. Obv inscription: CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PAT[ER] PATRIAE. Rev: Gaius and Lucius Caesar standing, facing each other, with two shields, two spears, a simpulum and lituus positioned between them. Rev inscription: C L CAESAR[ES AVGVS]TI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT. Part of a hoard from Queen Victoria Street, City of London, 1958.
