Medal
This medal commemorates the completion of the Thames Tunnel. The tunnel was designed by Marc Isambard Brunel together with his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was made to accommodate vehicles, but Brunel was unable to raise the funds to construct the spiralling ramps required to carry coaches. The tunnel remained a foot tunnel until the 1860s, when it was converted for use by the East London Railway. It is now part of the East London Line underground service.
