Post-Medieval — C.1673; 17th century
Ravenscroft tazza
This tazza (one of a pair) was probably made in one of the glasshouses owned by George Ravenscroft (1632-1683), who ran an import/export business specializing in a diverse range of products including currants, lace and glass. The Savoy glassworks was established in the Savoy in 1673, and then Ravenscroft opened a new facility at Henley-on-Thames in 1674-5. It is slightly crizzled (the result of excessive alkaline salts or insufficient amounts of lime) which suggests it was made before 1677. In 1676, Ravenscroft advertised his new and perfected lead crystal in the London Gazette for the week 5-9 October, 1676.
