Museum of London Archaeology Service — Tudor; early - mid 16th century
Lead, toy, miniature chest
Openwork front panel from a toy chest. Th epanel is made from six angled arches. In the centre at the top is a lock plate with a keyhole and a hole for a hasp (a clasp for fastening a door or lid with a padlock). On the back of the panel are three tabs, probably for holding a piece of copper foil in position. The shiny copper would have shown through the openwork of the panel.
