Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Empress Julia Domna, wife of Emperor Septimius Severus (AD 193-211) and mother to emperors Geta (AD 209-211) and Caracalla (AD 198-217). The back of the coin depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of love. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 193-196.
Obv: Draped and bare-headed bust of Julia Domna, facing right. Obv inscription: IVLIA DOMNA AVG. Rev: Venus, naked to the waist, standing right, with her back to the viewer, holding an apple in her right hand and a palm in the left, her left arm rests against a column. Rev inscription: VENERI VICTR. Part of a hoard from Muswell Hill, Haringey, 1928.
