A silver denarius coin of Emperor Septimius Severus, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 193-211. The back of the coin depicts Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and winemaking. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 193-194.
Obv: Laureate head of Septimius Severus, facing right. Obv inscription: SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP III. Rev: Bacchus, standing left, holding a oenochoe (wine jug) above a panther with his right hand. Rev inscription: LIBERO PATRI. Part of a hoard from Muswell Hill, 1928.
