Dinner Time on F Wing
The F Wing was the psychiatric wing of Brixton Prison and housed upwards of two hundred remand prisoners suffering from a range of disorders.
Wearing striped uniforms, inmates line up before the hot-plate in the centre, waiting for their food to be dished up by the white-coated servers. In surrounding cells and on upper landings, other prisoners await their turn. Their faces can be seen peering through the open cell door flaps. A tense mood is created by the distorted perspective and the acidic colours.
Paul Clements was a self-taught artist who worked as a librarian at Brixton Prison.
