Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Faustina the Younger, empress to Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180. She was the daughter of Emperor Antoninus Pius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 138-161. The back of the coin depicts Spes, the female personification of hope. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 154-157.
Obv: Draped and bare-headed bust of Faustina II, facing right. Obv inscription: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. Rev: Spes, standing front, head left, holding flower in her extended right hand and raising the hem of her dress with the left. Rev inscription: AVGVSTI PII FIL. Part of a hoard from Muswell Hill, Haringey, 1928.
