Billon plack James IV/V of Scotland
Forged Scottish billon plack coin. James IV/V of Scotland. Obv: lion rampant on shield. Rev: cross with either 4 crosses or 2 crowns and 2 crosses in angles. This coin is part of a hoard of 158 counterfeit Scottish billon placks recovered during excavation on the site of Minster house, 12 Arthur Street, Laurence Pountney Lane in 1954-5 by Ivor Noel Hume of the Guildhall Museum. The coins were found in a large cesspit at the southern end of the site with other objects of post-medieval date up to c. 1660-80.
