Elizabeth I three-half penny piece
A silver three halfpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). The obverse shows a profile bust of the queen to left, with a rose behind, and the legend: E D G ROSA SINE SPINA ('Elizabeth by the Grace of God a rose without a thorn'). The reverse shows the royal arms with the date 1574, the mintmark of an eglantine and the legend: CIVITAS LONDON ('City of London'). Issued from the Tower Mint. The eglantine mint mark was issued between 1573-1577. Found in small leather pouch with four other coins.This coin was issued between 1561 and 1582 as part of a plan to produce vast quantities of coins with high silver content.
