Coin, cistophorus
A silver cistophorus coin of Emperor Hadrian, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 117-138. The back of the coin depicts the temple of Diana at Ephesus. This coin was minted in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus (near modern day Selçuk, Izmir Province, Turkey), AD 134-138.
Obv: Bare head of Hadrian, facing right. Obv inscription: HADRIANVS AVG COS III PP. Rev: Cultus-image of Diana Ephesia standing between the four columns of a temple. Rev inscription: [DIA] NA in field, EPHESIA in exergue.
