Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Trajan, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 98-117. The back of the coin depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 104-111.
Obv: Laureate bust of Trajan, facing right, left shoulder draped. Obv inscription: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TR P COS V PP. Rev: Ceres, wearing a crown of corn-ears, standing left, holding two corn-ears over a modius with her right hand and a long vertical torch in the left. Rev inscription: SPQR OPT[IMO PRI]NCIPI, SC in field.
