Cruet
Small covered vessels for sacramental wine and water were used during the Mass, and most were usually marked with the letters 'V' (vinum) for wine and 'A' (aqua) for water to distinguish one from the other. This pewter cruet was found with a pewter flask on the Thames foreshore in 1995 [see 95.530/2]. The vessels might have belonged to the same owner. There is a mark of the letter ‘W’ on the lid, which is probably the town mark of Wroclaw, now in Poland. The cruet was possibly made there by a maker called Hans Grofe.
