A copper alloy as coin of Emperor Claudius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 41-54. The back of the coin depicts Minerva, the Roman goddess of war, poetry, medicine, magic and crafts. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 41-42. This was one of 17 Claudian coins found with a burnt fragment of samian ware dish.
Obv: Bare head of Claudius, facing left. Obv inscription: [TI CLAVD]IVS CAESAR AVG P[M TR P IMP]. Rev: Minerva, advancing right, holding a javelin in her right hand and a round shield in the left. Rev inscription: SC in field.
