Decorative arts — C. 1840
Bracelet
Gold bracelet composed of eight rope twist links with three locket pendants and a clasp. The centre pendant is in the form of a Tudor rose set with a cabochon amethyst. At the back is a tiny glass covered compartment containing a curl of blond hair. The two flanking pendants of flower engraved gold contain curls of dark hair. One of them is engraved on the inside of the lid with the motto ‘Le don d’amour’, meaning ‘The gift of love’. Locks of hair were incorporated in jewellery as reminders of loved ones.
