Earring, memorial earring
Pair of memorial earrings, part of a matching set of jewellery. These drop earrings are made of netted hair set in gold mounts. English, c.1850. Ensuite with pendant 38.160/1, stored in original box.
Locks of woven hair were incorporated in jewellery as reminders of loved ones or the dead. Mrs. E.M. Salmond donated this jewellery to the Museum in 1938 and it is said to have been made with her grandmother's hair.
