Brooch
Gold brooch, part of a set including earrings and a bracelet. The oval shaped brooch has a centrepiece with an enamelled star set with a central half pearl. There is a compartment in which to keep hair or a souvenir of a loved one. Pencilled annotations on the satin lid of the original case give a date of 3 June 1865.
The Clerkenwell jeweller Hermann Wehrfritz made this brooch for his wife. It was donated by his daughter. Wehrfritz trained as a jeweller in Paris before coming to London in 1860.
