Brooch
Gold brooch set with six almandine garnet cabochons in the form of a ribbon tied in a ‘true lovers’ knot’. It is unmarked and the workmanship is characteristically English. In the 19th century, the fashion for pieces imitating costume trimmings like ribbon bows and lace came from Paris, still a very important source for English ornamental jewellery.
