Billhead, invoice
Copper-engraved billhead with handwritten invoice issued by the hosiery firm of Burkitt & Langdown located at the corner of Queen Street, Cheapside. The billhead includes an engraving of the tradesman's sign of a portrait of the Queen within a decorative cartouche surmounted by a crown. The engraved script is in English round hand. Dated 15th April 1750 the invoice refers to the supply of three pairs of men's scarlet hose and two pairs of boy's fine grey hose. By 1755 the partnership of Burkitt & Langown had broken down and Edward Burkitt was trading alone at this address.
