William & Jason Horne Jr.
Copper-engraved billhead and handwritten invoice issued by the coal merchants William and Jas Horne Junior, located at Falcon Coal Wharf, Bankside, Southwark. The invoice dated August 1848 refers to the supply of coal to J.Richardson. Until the building of the railways and the canal system coal arrived in London by sea. Coal wharves located along the banks of the river Thames enabled colliers to unload straight into the merchants warehouses.
