Part of a 'medallion' polychrome tin-glazed earthenware floor tile, decorated in blue and ochre with the profile bust of a bearded man wearing a knitted or felt cap, within blue and ochre circles on a buff tin-glaze. Inlaid and white-glazed decorative 'paving tyles' were imported from Middelburg and Antwerp with assorted cargoes of sheepskins, nails, timber wainscots, featherbeds, wax, knives, and cloth. This tile was recovered from the luxury residence of Protector Somerset on the site of Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate.
