Post-Medieval — Late Medieval-early post-Medieval; 15th-16th century
Ampulla
A ampulla with a slightly recessed neck,, suggesting that the vessel was originally fitted with alid or seal cap. The function is unknown but it is possible that it served as portable container for ink, or as an ampullae for 'Holy water' and tinctures of Christ's blood. Similar vessels were used in the late 16th and early 17th century as a bandolier flask. See also A16991.
