Petit Courrier des Dames
Fashion plate depicting two women. The woman on the left wears a pale beige, off-the-shoulder dress, with two tiers of pinking across the bodice and arms. The dress has a narrow waist with a full skirt with vertical pinked decoration. The woman wears her hair in looped up in plaits and carries a fan.
The woman on the right wears a dress with similar bodice, with a pink bow in the centre. The dress has a narrow waist with a full, three-quarter length overskirt in blue and an underskirt in pink. The skirts are embroidered with floral motifs at the hem. The woman wears her hair in ringlets and holds a bouquet.
Below the image is printed 'Modes de Paris' 'Petit Courrier des Dames' Boulevard des Italiens, No. 2, près le passage de l'Opera'.
The ‘Petit Courrier des Dames’ featured fashion plates by some of the best artists of the day, but they were often unsigned. This fashion periodical was published between 1822 and 1865.
