Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1980-1985
Café
The Cafe Grill Bar, which no longer exists, was situated in Roman Road, opposite Bacton Street in Bethnal Green. This view of the cafe includes the seating on the right, a Lucky Seven pinball machine and a Space Invaders computer game unit on the left. Reflected in the window glass are a saloon car, a red double-decker bus advertising 'Booths The gin drinker's gin' and a housing block. The word 'CAFE' is superimposed over the whole image. Reflections merge with objects seen directly and the result is a distorted sense of perspective and distance. A founder member of East London Printmakers, Brooke taught printmaking at Newham College between 1974 and 2000.
