Thomas Younghusband and his Family Meet Queen Victoria and her Family at Crystal Palace
This commemorative painting records the meeting between the royal family and the Younghusband family at Crystal Palace in Sydenham. Thomas Younghusband had earlier moved a medieval crypt from beneath his house to the grounds of Crystal Palace to prevent it being destroyed by the construction of a railway.
From left to right the principal figures are: Thomas Younghusband, his wife Sarah and sister Matilda, Queen Victoria, the Prince Consort, Charlotte and Joseph Younghusband, the son of Thomas. Among the children depicted are Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, and Princess Victoria.
Thomas Younghusband was the donor's mother's grandfather.
