Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament from the River
Winkfield's painting shows a sweeping view across the Thames from the south-easte, taking in Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. Isolated against a pale, cloudy sky, Victoria Tower and Big Ben dominate the compostion. In the distance Westminster Abbey can be seen and, on the extreme right, is part of Victoria Embankment and the new St Stephen's Club. The barges and tugs in the foreground give an indication of late 19th century river traffic.
