The Crab Tree Inn, Fulham from the Surrey Shore
The Crab Tree was an inn in Fulham located on the Surrey shore. It is seen here in the central distance with some malthouses to its left. A rowing boat is shown on the river, which stretches across the foreground. Its movement, indicated by ripples in the water, is contrasted with the two stationary barges drawn up on the riverbank in the middle distance.
The artist, William Callcott ( active 1843-1890) painted river and coastal scenes and exhibited at the Royal Academy.
