A Street Scene with Two Omnibuses
Two London omnibuses, both of the early single-deck type, are portrayed passing four-storey red brick terrace houses. According to the markings on the foremost vehicle, it is owned by E. and J. Wilson and plies between Euston and Chelsea. The second is marked as plying between Holloway and Chelsea.
It became the norm for omnibuses to be drawn by two horses, with a conductor standing on a plate at the back of the vehicle. By the mid 1840s, seats were installed behind the driver, and this is the arrangement seen in the foremost omnibus.
