Portrait Group of Members of the Marylebone Cricket Club Outside the Pavilion at Lord's
About ninety members of the Marylebone Cricket Club and patrons of cricket are shown grouped together in the foreground, with other figures dotted around the Pavilion. Among those present are Sir Spencer Ponsonby-Fane, the Earl of Darnley and the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII).
As cricket grew in popularity during the 19th century, the Pavilion at Lord's was improved and extended. In this painting, the Union Jack and the flag of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) can be seen flying on the roof of the building.
