Paintings, Prints & Drawings — C. 1912
An Evening Scene in Green Park
Primarily a landscape painter, Hay moved to London around 1912 where he met members of the Camden Town Group, with whom he exhibited in 1913. Although the costume in this painting suggests a date of around 1905, the style is consistent with the work of the Camden Town Group which indicates that Hay may have reworked an earlier picture. His late work is principally concerned with London's parks and commons. This view of Green Park is difficult to identify but it's likely that the artist positioned himself near the centre of the park, looking south-west. A serpentine path curves past a large tree on the right towards a distant clump of trees in the left background.
