London Bridge from Custom House Quay
The Custom House was origibnally constructed in the late fourteenth century and was used for weighing all wool brought into London. Its importance grew with the rise of importsand it was successively rebuilt by Wren, Thomas Ripley and David Laing, having been destroyed by fire in 1666, 1718 and 1814.
Although the new Laing building is out of view on the right, this work shows the quay, fishing boats at Billingsgate and Old London Bridge just before building work started on the new bridge in 1824.
