This Parcell of Land Belonging to Mr John Carter Cittizen and Grocer of London
'This Parcell of Land Belonging to Mr John Carter Cittizen and Grocer of London was Surveighed And Measured in June 1671 and Conteineth eight Akers Two Roodes and Seaven Perches. By me Henry Bond Senr: practicioner in the Mathematicks and Surveighor'. Plan of area west of Brick Lane prior to development, including along St John's Street. The plan is signed by Henry Bond "practicioner in the Mathematicks and Surveighor" and carries an annotation signed and sealed by "Cr. Wren" (verified as Christopher Wren's signature) that His Majesty had under seal licensed John Carter to develop the land. Hare Street on the plan is now Wentworth Street; St John's Street and St George's Street do not exist.
